It don't mean a thing if you ain't got that swing

I was about to do a video on riffs- short melodic phrases that can be played over a 12 bar blues form, but to sound great, the swing eighth needs to be comfortable, because playing hands together is like taking your bike out on the freeway when you are first learning to cycle.

Of course, you may be one who gets this quickly, good for you. Try a few riffs, then play them over a 12 bar blues. However, if it takes you a little time to get the hang of it, you are in great company. The road to awesome is paved with terrible.

Key points - keep tapping a steady beat. Exaggerate the counting ONE and TWO and THREE and FOUR and. . .

No cards are necessary for this. You can practice the counting aloud in your car stuck in traffic (ONE and TWO and THREE and FOUR and. . .) You can clap the rhythm. You can listen to jazz and see if you can count along.

Your future self will thank you for learning how to keep a steady beat. And, you can always come back here if you get stuck.

Don't worry if it doesn't quite sound musical, yet. Does flour and yeast look like bread? Right now you are learning about the ingredients and getting a feel for them. It's normal for it to take a little time.
