First Piano Lessons Video 2 of 3

After learning the names of all of the keys, or at least knowing how to figure them out you are ready for the 2nd part of the first lesson. (You can check out the first video with the link)

Those first lessons are tricky. Learning to play the piano has so many different elements, learning the names of the keys, controlling body parts like hands and fingers, playing the keys, reading music, listening. . . it can be overwhelming to a new student.

The outcome I want for my students after that first lesson is:

  • knowing names of keys,

  • and playing 5 note scales and chords for all 12 major and 12 minor keys.

If you are a piano teacher, you might be wondering if that's too much, and if you are a piano newbie you might be thinking, "what are scales and chords?"

New pianists can play scales and chords long before they understand what scales and chords are. In the year I have been using the cards with students confidence in playing on all the keys all over the piano has skyrocketed. 2-3 months after starting with the cards all sorts of lightbulb moments start happening and casual discussions about scales and chords are a thing!
